Aerobics is an excellent Cardio-respiratory (heart and lung) activity, performed to the rhythmic beat of music; it integrates aerobic exercise with strength and flexibility to promote an increase in your fitness. You follow the direction of an experienced instructor through the safe and correct moves and as with most physical activities there is a proper technique involved.

No matter if you are a beginner or experienced, there is a Workout that will fit your needs. Ranging from Beginner Low Impact to Advanced High Intensity classes, everyone can be catered for with these choices:

  • HOW DO YOU GET STARTED?

    I must admit as I have participated and instructed in the past, I am biased. It’s a great form of Cardio Training in addition to the Fitness benefits you also meet likeminded people in a enjoyable environment with Professional Instruction.

    The best way for you to commence your participation in Aerobics is to visit your local Fitness Studio or Gymnasium and inquire about their classes and what they can offer you. Find a location that suits you and participate in a couple of classes over the duration of a week or two, this will help you settle in. This will also help you find what classes you like and what suits your schedule.

    Remember that with any form of Cardio Training go at your own pace, it’s not a race between you and any other participant in the class. You have the option to modify the moves to your abilities. For example, you don’t have to jump, you can step and if the intensity is too difficult, you can slow your pace down to suit. But these issues should not be a problem as long as you have an experienced instructor, as they will suggest moves to suit your needs.

    Once you have built up some experience and fitness, you can explore the many choices (listed above) that can be on offer. This will help you stay enthusiastic and motivated and ensure that your fitness improves.

    There is also the option of participating in Aerobic Workouts in your own home via the use of a DVD or Video.

    These are great because of their convenience.

    YOUR TIPS FOR BETTER AEROBICS

  • If you are a beginner or new to Aerobics, start out slowly and gradually increase your participation and pace.
  • The moves should be challenging but not painful, if a particular move causes you discomfort, talk to the instructor.
  • Always have some water nearby to drink during the class and a small towel (Post class)
  • Please be on time, as being late means missing out on the warm up or not being able to do the class at all.
  • Ensure that you have the correct footwear that will cushion and support.
  • Don’t be shy and stand at the back, you cannot see the instructor properly. The best place is at the front and towards the sides.
  • Make sure that you have enough room around you, so you don’t tip on someone or them on you.
  • I cannot emphasis this enough, you can always modify the moves to suit your intensity and ability. You don’t have to keep up with the instructor or the rest of the class. Do what you can and you will improve.
  • Sometimes it might be awkward to learn a new move, especially if the class is moving along at a brisk pace. It’s a good idea to ask the instructor after the class if they can show you the move once again.
  • As with all Cardio Training, I strongly recommend the use of a Heart rate Monitor to ensure that you don’t over do it and you can control your intensity levels perfectly.
  • Best of all you can exercise your “smile” muscles and have fun.
